Hi everyone, my friend and I have been coming for awhile and we both agree that our "dreaded" posture is locust.  I have to know... what muscles are involved to get your "angel wings" that is the feet up over the back. I feel like a struggling trussed goose and my friend says her pubic bone hurts.  Any tips

5 Replies and 3018 Views Sit-ups...yeah right! Started by  Natalie I absolutely, positively, CANNOT sit up correctly when we do the sit-ups in Metal!! (the ones where you are laying down flat with hands behind your head and have to slowly sit up and then slowly curl back down) I HAVE to hold my hands out for support/to push off the mat, and even then my feet fly up in the air. It's like I have this rod in my back that keeps me from being able to use all of my back muscles to sit up! Yesterday I did Metal and I watched several students bc I thought maybe I w...

2 Replies and 3251 Views Rabbit safety Started by  Debra B I had some questions about Rabbit in light of all these articles discussing the dangers of youga -most of the articles talk about poses like plow and shoulder stands because they are so extreme with the tension on the neck. I know it isn't exactly the same but rabbit seems to also put tension (but no weight) on the neck -but rabbit does seem to be in the same category -although it doesn't specifically get mentioned. I work to keep my forehead on my knees and only my hair is touching the floor -w...

5 Replies and 3002 Views let's talk crow Started by  Debra B Okay -I know I'm just missing something on crow - I've tried it in class, watch videos on-line and read a bunch of stuff and I still feel like I'm missing something. Everyone tells me it isn't what I think I need to do. So I thought if I heard more stories about how your get into crow that eventually someone will say something that will click for me. Thanks

2 Replies and 3245 Views Knee flexibility Started by  Becky Gee This pretty much goes for anything with the knee, I guess. I am 35, I have a left knee meniscus tear and partial ACL tear that was scoped when I was 18. After losing weight at 30, I have run 6 half-mar's, started yoga after I started running. Bottom line: I haven't been able to sit on my heels since I was probably 17. I pretty much don't go to 90 min fire anymore because heros pose is really unmanageable, I used a block when I first started but was told not to and all I can do is 'stand' on m...

2 Replies and 3939 Views Grinding in geometric leg lifts Started by  Kelly Ann I have been attending sunstone for almost three years now, and everytime I do geometric leg lifts in the wood class the is a grinding that occurs in my hip bone area. It is not painful but sounds really loud in my head and does not seem normal. I thought maybe over time I would get stronger, that it was an issue of weakness, but it has not. Anyone ever experienced this same thing and have an answer

2 Replies and 3014 Views Head to Knee Preparation Started by  Laura Blankenship I have attended over 100 classes and am excited to see progress in some poses I never thought I would be able to do. However, with shortish arms, tight shoulders, and an ample bosom, I cannot grab my foot in standing head to knee preparation. Thus, I am doing A LOT of standing wind relieving. When practicing at home on a day I could not make it in to the studio, I grabbed a strap to 'elongate' my arms and help my body feel the posture I'm aiming for. Would using a strap in class be an appropriat...

2 Replies and 4267 Views Tibetan Table pain Started by  Debra B After my first week or so of yoga I noticed some pain in one of my shoulder/deltoids. Not too bad, but sort of a range of motion warning pain. So in my next class I paid super close attention to when this part of my body would flare up and it was during Tibetan table. It is sort of weird - I don't notice it during the reps that much -but right after. I'm assuming my hand position is off on that side -so I've been experimenting -but haven't found the trick. It is bothering me again right now ...

3 Replies and 3622 Views Half Locust - arms under body, palms facing down Started by  Stephanie Sorry fellas, this is a girl convo! Do any other well-endowed girls out there have breast pain during this pose My arms are under my body, pushing my breasts to the center, and then more weight rolls towards the front, squishing them even more. I find that I'm not lifting my legs as high as I can, just so I can avoid the chest pain. And on top of that, I feel like I'm straining my neck and my elbows feel like they are hyperextending. After all of this, I have to pick up my whole chest of...
