3 Replies and 1859 Views Back pain? Started by  Maddie_mcbride I am a new member. I think today was my ninth class or around there but it was my fifth day in a row to go to fire. I noticed last night my back was sore (mid/lower) and i thought i was just sore so i went to the fire class again this morning. Today it has bothered me more like i need to sit up straighter during the day but laying in bed its pretty sore. Is going to yoga everyday overkill as a new member

3 Replies and 6101 Views Yoga Post Gallbladder Removal Started by  Karen I had my gallbladder removed laproscopically two weeks ago, and am cleared by my surgeon to return to normal activities. I plan to ease back into my yoga practice, no earlier than next week, but I was wondering if anyone else has had their gallbladder removed and resumed their yoga practice. I'd like an idea of what to expect, and what kinds of modifications I should think about. Right now, I still have a lot of tenderness in my upper abs, so I'm worried about the twisting poses and anything ...

2 Replies and 4577 Views Help for an orthotic wearer Started by  Renee I have high arches and hammer toes. This causes more pressure on the ball of foot than is normal and leads to stress injuries that take weeks to heal. My podiatrist frowns on any weight bearing activity that I can't do in shoes with orthotics in them. I've seen some socks and shoes purported for yoga use, but none of them offer much in the way of arch support. I'm looking for advice from anyone who has figured out a way around this already. 3 Replies and 4157 Views Back Pain ...left lower Started by  Russell I'm a new student. In the fire series pose where we lay face down across one knee with the opposite leg extended behind us and the arms stretched in front I get pain in my lower back left side when I lay across the bent right knee with left leg extended. I intend to skip this until the pain resolves. Should I also skip doing the pose on the other side to keep things balanced or continue to do that side and skip only the one that causes pain

4 Replies and 11870 Views Lower back pain during backbends Started by  Virginia Beam Lately I've been noticing a sharp, consistent pain in my lower backs. It's most pronounced when I do anything involving backbends (Lord of the Dance, Bow, Warrior, etc.). Does this pain mean that I am doing something wrong Should I cool it with the backbends until the pain lets up some Or should I just push through the pain and maybe it will go away as my back becomes stronger Thanks!

3 Replies and 4166 Views muscle spasms in back Started by  jeanniezimm I spoke with a student today who LOVES hot yoga, used to practice but had to stop because of muscle spasms in her back. She is an avid runner, swimmer, athlete in general. After 5 years of no yoga and missing it, she tried again. Her spasms started up the first class in the upper back. The backbends trigger the spasms. I suggested wood to balance out the core, but have not heard of this before. Anyone have this experience Any suggestions for her She really wants to practice again!!

7 Replies and 5394 Views Why is my balance getting worse??? Started by  lizzy2571 Okay, I began going to sunstone about 3 months ago. I was ( and still am) extremely out of shape, but my balance in all of the poses was great. So , 26 classes later my flexibility is a bit better, I am definitely stronger, I have lost some weight but my balance is HORRIBLE. I can barely stand on one leg during eagle, much less getting my toes pointing in the right direction, and lets not even talk about balancing stick, again I am way worse than I was.
